This is Simon, a man of Cyrene, whom the Romans and the Jews compelled to carry Jesus' cross up the hill.

"Vera Icon." That is : "The True Image." We have no means of knowing the real name of the holy woman who went out of her way to wipe the outraged face of Jesus and who in return was graced with the miraculous image upon her veil. for that reason she has been called Vera Icon, or better, Veronica ever since.
That is : "Iesus Nazarenus Rex Ludaeorum." The latter was the superscription on the cross of Jesus; in other words, the death sentence was meted out because "Jesus of Nazareth" had claimed to be "Kink of the Jews"
(John 19:19).
