Congratulations, you are doing a great service to Malta and the Maltese. I have been following the election very closely and first of all I have to congratulate Alfred Sant for having the guts to tell Mintoff that this is 1998 not 1958 and for having the guts to call an election. I loved Dom Mintoff but the time has changed and he must realize that he cannot live in the past. As for Eddie Fenech Adami, he should grow up. All I heard from him is negative things about the MLP. Didn't he have anything good to offer or promise to the people? GROW UP EDDIE. You don't have any love for Malta and the Maltese you just HATE Alfred Sant. My God forgive you. Al

I wish you all the best of luck on this election day ! I hope that it has been a peaceful and fair election. And whomever wins this election, may the new government take the needs of the island and its people, as the first and only priority, in the years to come ! On a final note,It would be a long term disaster for the island to steer away from eventual membership of the European Union. See sense guys !!! It could and would only benefit the country. The world needs to get closer in political, commercial ties; and by alienating the island from the Union surounding it, would cast only a negative shadow, to such a great country. My thoughts are with you on this day ! Greetings to all my compatriots from sunny California, John Lauri

Well, Just to wish my co-nationals, good luck in what should prove to be an important day for the future of the islands. May it be a fair and peaceful election. And whomever wins, I would hope, will take the country's stability and interests, and theis first and only priority. Best wishes, from London, John Lauri

A vote for Europe is a defeat for Malta's bird killers (the kaccaturi and the nassaba). Malta's membership to the European Union means better bird protection legislation, irrespective of what Dr Eddie Fenech Adami is saying to the hunters. The Allejanza Gustizzja Socjali (Alternattiva Demokratika) deserves support from true environmentalists for its green environmental principles. However I shall vote No 1 to PN for its European Union membership target with Alleanza Gustizzja Socjali getting my second, third, and fourth preference vote. The rest of my choice will continue to PN candidates. No votes to MLP, the party that the bird killers like to govern so they may be free to kill as many birds as they like.

Under Eddy's progressive inspirational leadership Malta will certainly find benefit from the friendly protective grouping of the EC. Does Eddie require endorsement for his pro EC policy? Or does the Maltese voter wish to see an example of socialist policies? Then the collapse of the Rouble, the political chaos, and the mounting unemployment suffered by the old communist/socialist states provides a classic example. The events will have repercussions throughout the world, Malta's future prosperity lies within strong, capable, international friendships.

Very well presented and informative page, keep it up. As a maltese citizen who lives abroad makes me sad that I am not able to participate in this election . I have the voting document but cannot vote. Maybe a new mail voting s ystem can be adopted next time. In the meantime I can only wish a victory for EDDIE. My vote would have been for him.

    Dear Alexei:

First & foremost I want to make it clear that it was not Martin but me who adds the photos. I am the one who selects which photos go on which page. I am not shy to admit it but my favorite picture it that of Spiru Sant. It is the most honest and most natural picture of them all.

I believe we have a good balance of photos, audio, links etc. on the site. For this reason I do not feel that this page is bias to any party or any organization. I have added sites from all political parties with the same sense of urgency.

We have also received a comment about the Kulhadd banner. Well the Newspaper has a reciprocal link to our site and I have offered the same to In-Nazzjon but they never answered my email.

I have also offered my help and expertise with Real Audio Streaming and have even signed the guestbook on the PN web site offering my help but no one acknowledged it.

I feel that by these false accusations you are being unfair to us because you do not know the full facts.

I do urge everyone in Malta to vote and vote with their brains and not their hearts.

    Sincerely:

    Antoine

Antoine, Martin, prosit u grazzi. You did a great job and will look forward for updated election reports on the 6th. This is an important event in our history. Malta will either stay put or move forwards. The old timers attitude collected too much dust. Corruption made many people in power rich but not the Maltese people. Sant is the most dignified PM we ever had - let's hope he'll be there again for the next five years. Malta needs him. Please join the Malta List and share your ideas with the rest of us. To join send an email to majordomo@angus.mystery.com and in the body type subscribe malta. Do not sign it. Political and general ideas are discussed between Maltese scattered all over the world. I would like to wish my Maltese friends, living all over the island, in Sliema, Zebbug, Blata l-Bajda, Birzebbugga and other places that a pro-Europaen option wins. Malta should not stay outside the mainstream of current processes in our continent. I do wish Mr. Eddie Fenech Adami the victory which his party and all their supporters deserve. Good luck !!!

Watching the current election campaign, from up here in Canada, through your fine coverage, is indeed refreshing. The single-most irritant is the fact that Dom Mintoff is not contesting. Good for him. Surely, anyone with any sense of decency out to be ashamed of the way the MLP has treated him -- he who not only gave birth to the Party, but is doubtless the father of modern Malta. Shame on Dr. Sant and his followers. As for the PN -- gosh, they are something else. So now they are admitting to their sins! Glory be! Confess, shed a few crocodile tears, and then go on to more of the old. But then, that's politics; no different in Malta than it is over on this side of the world. Don't let any of your main line parties fool you.... Malta is definitely modern.... just look at its politicians.... they have caught up to old tricks, dirty and otherwise. Goodbye Dom Mintoff...
