The Surname Farrugia seems to be of Sicilian decent from the city of Villabianca.
In the year 1761 Pietro Ferrugia became Noble of the Kingdom of Sicily
and was appointed as a Judge of the Pretorian Court.
In 1772 he became a Judge of the Supreme Court.

The surname Farrugia most probably originated from the Arabic word "Farrug",
which means turkey or "dundjan". Hence the depiction of a turkey on the coat of arms.
