Another notable bearer of the name was Arturo Risso, a doctor and professor of medicine at the university of Genoa who published several volumes between 1891 and 1893. However research is of course ongoing and this name may have been documented even earlier than the dates indicated above.

In the archives of the city of Genoa we find a record of the marriage of Anna Giovanna Risso and Giacomo Gabriele Borfigo, which took place ion August 1st 1857 and that of Francesco Risso and Geronima Castagneto, which was celebrated on February 15th 1874. Evidence of the existence of the surname in America is substantiated by passenger lists which note Giuseppe Risso arrived in New York on March 22nd 1883. However the name could have been introduced there earlier.
