The Vassallo family are of direct Royal descent from the Ancient Lombardian Royal family.
One branch went to the Byzantine Empire and were created Counts. Another branch went to Sicily. Out of the family, Nobile Marco de Vassallo, established his family in Malta.
They intermarried with d'Aragona's Inguanez, de Nava's and much of the noble families of Malta and Sicily. They today carry the title of Barons of Bauvo, created in the 13th century.

- Alberto Vassallo - 1520, Jurat.
- Andrea Vassallo - (1856 - 28.1.1928 much respected architect, whose greatest works include the domes of St. Cajetan, Hamrun, St. Nicholas in Siggiewi and the rococo church of Tal-Herba, B'kara Malta. Other works include the art nouveau Casa Said, Sliema Malta(now demolished), etc. His last work was the basilica of Ta' Pinu Sanctuary in Gozo, completed after his death by his son Edwin and later by architect James Galizia. Vassallo's competence was beyond dispute and he joined the UK Institute of Civil Engineers in 1892. In 1907 he was recognised as an architect by the Royal Institute of British Architects. He died at Zammit Clapp hospital which he had designed and built himself in 1910.)
- Architect Edwin Vassallo M.P. - (1891 - 21-11-1941, architect who erected several works throughout Malta. Was elected in the 1921, 1924, 1927 and 1932 elections with the Constitutional Party (Strickland) and was responsible for erecting St. Luke's Hospital when Minister of Public Works (1927-30). He was editor of Constitutional Party newspapers "Progress" and "Times of Malta" between 1922 and 1927. Son of the celebrated architect Andrea Vassallo.)
